Joseph J. Gallo, MD, MPH

Dr. Gallo is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania. His work focuses on age differences in the symptoms of depression, especially as this relates to the presentation of older adults in the primary care setting. The standard criteria for depression may be less helpful to the primary care doctor than to the psychiatrist, even if one sets aside that age-relevant criteria for depression does not exist. Dr. Gallo received his BS degree in Chemistry from Fordham University and his MD degree from The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. After a residency in Family Medicine, he took additional training in Geriatrics and in Psychiatric Epidemiology. He holds a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.
