Thomas A. Glass, PhD

Dr. Glass is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he is conducting research on the role of psychosocial factors in health and functioning among the elderly. He recently conducted a randomized clinical trial to test a psychosocial intervention in stroke patients.
In his research as a Brookdale National Fellow, Dr. Glass has explored the contribution of various psychosocial factors to levels of functioning in a community dwelling older population in New Haven, Connecticut. After interviewing a sample of 50 older individuals, he has developed a scale of enacted functioning designed to assess several domains of social, psychological and physical function as realized by people in their home environment.
Dr. Glass completed his doctoral research at Duke University on the role of social support in recovery from stroke. Later, he completed a two year post-doctoral training program in aging at Yale in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. His training is as a medical sociologist and social epidemiologist with concentrations in aging and life-course analysis.
