Andrea LaCroix, PhD

Andrea LaCroix

Dr. LaCroix is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Washington, where her research focuses on older women’s health and prevention of hip fracture and osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and disability.

As a Brookdale National Fellow, Dr. LaCroix conducted a study examining the determinants of physical function in older men and women with proven coronary artery disease undergoing angiography. That study has shown that anxiety, depression and self-efficacy for managing coronary disease have enduring effects on levels of physical function over and above the severity of coronary disease.

Dr. LaCroix received her doctoral training in epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Johns Hopkins University and conducted research at the National Institute on Aging before joining the faculty of the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington. She is a scientific investigator at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She is currently conducting several randomized trials designed to evaluate new therapeutic, educational, and screening strategies for their effectiveness in preventing bone loss and fracture.

Brookdale Fellow Class of 1990
