Miriam E. Nelson

Miriam E. Nelson is the Director of the John Hancock Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Tufts University.  Professor Nelson received a BS in Human Nutrition and Foods after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Vermont. She received her MS and PhD degrees in Nutrition from Tufts University. She then worked in the United States Senate for one year after receiving a Congressional Science Fellowship from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Nelson is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a Certified Nutrition Specialist.

As a Brookdale National Fellow, Dr. Nelson examined the effects of nutrition and exercise on bone health, body composition and function in the elderly. She is extensively involved in the benefits of strength training in older individuals.
