Joan D. Penrod, PhD

Dr. Penrod is an Associate Professor in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics, Mount Sinai School of Medicine directs the VA Center for Study of Health Care Across Systems and Sites of Care at the James J. Peters (Bronx) VA Medical Center. She obtained her degree in health services research, policy and administration from the Institute for Health Services Research at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Penrod’s research focuses on the effects of health services, practices and programs on the health and well being of older people and their families. Her current research includes the effects of palliative care consultation on outcomes, including costs of hospital care for veterans; quality indicators for palliative care in ICU; use of VA and Medicare services by disabled veterans; and formal and informal care costs of veterans with dementia.
